First Glimpse of Alaska

A Day of Adventure in Anchorage

begins with the Aurora Show at the Sydney Laurence Theatre ~ Alaska Center for the Performing Arts and a self-guided walking tour of Anchorage.

We also took in the Alaska Experience show.

Walking back from the day's adventures toward the Sheraton we saw one small plane after another taking off toward us - later we
learned that 1 of every 58 licenses in Alaska are for Pilots.

Many Alaskan's commute by plane as there are few roads and long distances.

The Anchorage Museum of History & Art was the next morning's adventure.

Then off to Whittier to board the Spirit of Columbia - a two hour scenic drive along Turnagin Arm, named by Captain Cook in 1778 because once more his crew exploring up the fjord in a small boat, were forced to turn back - again.
